HFIN 546: Financial Management in Healthcare (Corporate)
In this course we examine the complexities of financial decision making and risk in the dynamic US healthcare industry. Learners will gain an understanding of budgeting, cost analysis, revenue management and investment strategies among key stakeholders in the healthcare industry. Participants will gain knowledge and insights into healthcare economics, insurance reimbursement and regulatory compliance. Learning outcomes include being equipped with the skills needed to optimize financial performance of a healthcare organization while ensuring delivery of high-quality care. Prerequisite: None. Three graduate credits.
HMKT 570: Healthcare Operations and Management and Performance
Improvement In this hands-on course, learners will examine the principles, strategies and tools to effectively manage business operations in a variety of healthcare organizations including healthcare systems, service providers and technology vendors. From optimizing resource allocation and managing expense budgets to streamlining processes, this course enables participants to navigate healthcare delivery. Learners will gain insights into quality improvement, cost effectiveness, aspects of supply chain and innovation, preparing them to improve operational excellence in healthcare delivery. Prerequisite: None. Three graduate credits.
HMGT 526: Data-Driven Decision Making
In today's digital age, data has become a pivotal asset for organizations across industries. The ability to harness and analyze data effectively can lead to informed decision-making, driving competitive advantage and innovation. This course is designed to equip participants with the foundational knowledge and practical skills required to leverage data for strategic decision-making in business contexts. Topics covered in this course include: The fundamentals of data-driven decision-making, data collection methods, data analysis and interpretation, statistical tools and methodologies to extract insights from data. and data visualization. Prerequisite: None. Three graduate credits.
HMGT 599: Healthcare Consulting/Experiential Learning Practicum (capstone)
This experiential course provides learners an in-depth overview of healthcare consulting as a profession. Learners will gain the skills needed to perform consulting projects for a variety of organizations. Participants will develop the knowledge, skills and competencies necessary to analyze healthcare challenges, formulate strategic recommendations and deliver value-add consulting services to diverse organizations, public and private, and not for profit. Through case studies, discussions with consultants from healthcare consulting agencies, and hands-on projects including a project with a healthcare company, students will gain practical insights and experience in the consulting process, client engagement strategies, problem solving and critical thinking. Prerequisite: None. Three graduate credits.
