After graduation, Teresa Marks worked as an elementary substitute teacher in local school districts. Mark Farrar '81 served 34 years in the United States Army, including as a sentinel at the Tomb of the Unknown Soldier. His son Victor, a captain who currently serves as commander at the Tomb, earned a Guard, Tomb of the Unknown Soldier Identification Badge—the second-least-awarded decoration in the US Army. On February 22, 2019, Farrar had the privilege of pinning the badge on his son at the pinning ceremony. This event marks another in a series of significant accomplishments for this father and son:

  • Mark is the first and only Moravian graduate to have served at the Tomb.
  • Victor is one of only about a half dozen officers ever to have earned this as a result of his service at the tomb.
  • Mark and Victor are the first and only sentinel (Mark) and commander (Victor) team to have served at the Tomb and earned a badge.
  • They are the third of only three father-son pars with Tomb service.

Mark, is deservedly very proud of his son’s accomplishment.
