Bio: Dr. Greg Carey
Dr. Greg Carey serves as Associate Dean, Lancaster, and Professor of New Testament. He came to Lancaster Theological Seminary in 1999, having taught at Rhodes College and Winthrop University. He leads academic affairs for the School of Theology, tends to the Lancaster campus, and teaches courses in New Testament and other areas. Greg has authored or co-edited a dozen books and many articles and essays related to biblical studies, with interests in the book of Revelation and other ancient apocalyptic literature, the Gospel of Luke, and public biblical interpretation. He also publishes in popular venues, including The Christian Century, Religion Dispatches, Church Anew, and Word & Way. Greg serves on the editorial boards of Interpretation and Horizons in Biblical Theology and has held national and international leadership roles with the Society of Biblical Literature, including leading workshops on teaching biblical studies for other scholars. Greg integrates his academic life with public engagement. A United Church of Christ layperson, he has served in authorized ministry roles in multiple settings. He frequently speaks concerning the threat of Christian nationalism and the need for LGBTQ+ affirmation in all dimensions of Christian life. He is an active volunteer with POWER Interfaith and serves as a CASA (court-appointed special advocate) for a young man in foster care.
